Jailbreak 2010 Rules
Your mission: Attempt to get as far away from Cambridge as possible within the 36 hours starting 9am GMT Friday 29 Jan 2010 ending 9pm GMT on Saturday 30 Jan 2010.
- Your entry will only be finalised on receipt of the signed application form / disclaimer along with the relevant signed and dated cheques. The £30 registration fee per person will not be cashed.
- All sponsorship money must be handed in by Friday 5 March 2010 to the RAG office. Your £30 registration fee per person will be returned if you raise at least £120 (per person) and return your money to RAG before this deadline.
- At least one member of your team must be registered as a student of the University of Cambridge.
- Participants must be at least 18 years old.
- For safety reasons you must travel in pairs – you must not travel alone. Never split up to get a lift. All pairs must stay together at all times. Although female-female teams are permitted, Jailbreak 2010 strongly recommends male-female or male-male teams.
- If you are hitching you must not thumb for lifts either on the slip-roads of motorways or on the motorways themselves – this is illegal. For mixed couples, always ensure that the male hitcher is the first in and the last out of each vehicle.
- We will meet at 8:30am on Friday 29 Jan in the middle of Parker’s Piece. You will need to bring:
- A valid passport (not expiring in the next 6 months, if you intend to fly).
- A mobile phone with international roaming and credit.
We will supply:
- Your Jailbreak 2010 t-shirt.
- Your insurance documents.
- A letter confirming your participation in Jailbreak 2010.
- None of your own money is to be used for transport on the outward journey. However you may raise money for your outward journey anytime after 9am on 29 Jan. You may spend your own money on food, accommodation and the return journey as necessary.
- You are not allowed to use your own transport, friends’/ families’ transport, air miles, travel vouchers, etc. Pre-arrangements by negotiating with travel companies before the event commences (i.e. before 9am on 29 Jan) are also not allowed.
- Every time you cross a border or take a flight, you must phone or text a member of the Jailbreak 2010 team (you will be assigned one of us with numbers and e-mail addresses). You must also contact us between 8:30pm-9:30pm GMT on both Friday and Saturday to confirm your whereabouts. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
- If you are taking a flight, or other long-haul journey, ask about the return journey. It is recommended that you do not take a flight without guarantee of return.
- At your furthest point you must:
- Send a postcard from your destination to the RAG office (address above).
- Buy a local newspaper.
- Take a photograph of yourselves beside a significant landmark (wearing your Jailbreak 2010 t-shirts).
- Phone, text or email your assigned rep to let them know of your whereabouts.
- All application forms and cheques must be received by Fri 15 Jan at 12 noon.
Please email cambridgejailbreak@gmail.com if you
would like any further clarification of the above.
