Information for charities
If you wish to receive funds from Cambridge RAG please read the below before contacting us on rag@cusu.cam.ac.uk . We are a volunteer group with only one member of staff, therefore time is valuable, so please check that your question isn’t answered here first.

We make donations each year in June. We do not make donations during the year.

Our donations are split three ways – street collections, RAG week funds and all our other untagged funds which go into our Rag Appeal fund.

RAG Appeal Fund

The Rag Appeal fund supports 25 charities chosen by the RAG committee from those that have returned application forms. The 25 are comprised of 7 small,  7medium and 7 large charities (based on income) and 4 more of any size. Applications are available from late June to September. Forms are automatically sent to charities held on our database. If you would like to be added to the list, please email rag@cusu.cam.ac.uk with contact details (name of a contact and their position within the organisation, email address, website, postal address and telephone number) and you registered charity number for inclusion in our database.

Applications by paper, rather than by email may be disadvantaged. Decisions are made in early November and grants are awarded in June. We do not give funds from the ballot to charities without a valid registered charity number.

**** Applications are CLOSED for funding for the academic year 2009-10 ****

Raids (Street Collections)

Cambridge RAG runs street collections for selected charities throughout the year. Charities are selected by the committee and we then approach the charity directly. Please do not contact us with speculative requests – if you already hold a street collection permit which you think may interest us, please email the RAG President, Oskar. In general, we do not run weekday raids as our student collectors are too busy. Whilst we wish to support smaller charities as well as larger ones, street collections are in general not the best fundraising opportunity for little known charities and you may be better off applying for funding from our ballot. If you would like us to collect for you, you may also wish to consider our term dates, which can be found here.

CCVS Rag Week Ballot

We always select a local charity as recipent of our RAG week funds. There is no application procedure to become the beneficiary of the Rag Week funds as this is at the discretion of the committee. This year’s charity is Cambridge Council for Voluntary Services. Applications for the CCVS ballot are handled by Nicky Wrigley of CCVS. Applications for grants of up to £400 are welcomed from all organisations which are members of CCVS and grants are made in June. For more information please call CCVS on 01223 464696.

Please do not send us speculative applications as we will not accept them. Please apply through the channels described above.

Please do not send us your newsletter. We have several hundred charities on our database and whilst we would love to hear about what you’re all up to we do not have the time to read them or the space to store them.
